Woman, When You are Tired…Rest
“Within the Womb”
My sister, my sister-
rest when you are tired.
When your feet can not walk another step- rest…
When you are gritting teeth against
the fury of the weary…rest
When you can not climb one stone without
fear of toppling- rest!
My sister, my sister,
you carry the world within you
Every place you inhabit
finds its home in your womb…so, rest…..
The mountains that poke up
from the soil of the Earth,
the light and life which you will so
freely give to the next soul created from you…
leave them, my sister,
and rest…
No wonder you may be weary.
You carry the light, you carry the life.
You are made for the world, as the world is made from you.
Your womb expands and your back sways.
You will carry life and you will birth it, and
then when you have emptied yourself,
you will begin again…
building another world within.
My sister, my sister…
You will demand rest.
You will demand space.
You will require love.
And you will deserve it.
Obviously, I don’t mean the poem only for those women who are giving physical birth. Every woman carries the potential of the world within her womb, and giving birth or not, for this, she deserves rest.

Very, very true.
We all get so very tired at times, don’t we?
What follows is more than a hair off-topic, but it’s what came to mind after reading this post.

Let’s not forget about personhood.
Growing up, I spent most of my time around females and the elderly. I spent precious little time with other males and, even now, I spend precious little time with males. It’s not that I dislike males in particular -I dislike stupid, callow people equally and irrespective of their gender. I simply find it easier to socialise with females, especially when they have no interest in fucking me.
One thing that I’ve notice pervade the ‘female psyche’ are twin notions of ‘I’m just a girl’ and ‘I have to prove I’m better than males.’ I’d like to see females be real women, to strive for things as women and accept the inherent strengths and weaknesses that come with it. This doesn’t mean that women should not attempt to overcome their weaknesses or make them less potent, rather that they should strive for things as women and not as someone trying to be better than someone else to prove a point.
I won’t unpack that because I’m fairly certain that you know what I mean and are on the same page. But I will give an example.
One of the best workout partners I had was a butch lesbian. We’d push each other and it was great. There was never a thought that either one of us was male or female, or that she was black and I was white. We recognised these things, sure, but they weren’t points of contention.
It’s frustrating to watch this doubly reinforced ‘battle of the sexes.’
Very, very cool response. Love it. I agree and what a great experience with you workout partner. Amazing how labels dissolve when we relate to the person in front of us. nice!
Loved it. So sweet and honest.
