Speaking and Revealing…Your Life Changes

Options in Strength

if you pay silent attention
while you speak
you will note the tongue,
your constant companion,
reveals your personal maturation

the tongue will match your growing awareness
at every step
the glossal presence gains in accuracy- if you are conscious about it

if awareness outpaces the tongue, even for a moment
you will note the loss of your vocabulary

words, once your friend,
will lie hidden

giving space for new formulations

if you are patient enough, the tied tongue
unfurls to accommodate
your triumphs

Something my therapist and I frequently joke about is that when you are going through a major life transition, your vocabulary goes out the window. As we grow and transform, we are creating a new sense of self and life, and one of the ways in which this manifests is in the area of our speaking.

With transformation and awareness, our speaking tends to be gentler, more loving, and more attuned. Sometimes, it takes some time for the tongue to catch up. If you watch people as they go through transformation, or even monitor yourself, you will see the words you speak reveal the changes you have undergone. It really is an amazing place to be when you come to understand just how much you have grown and changed.

  1. So true, Kimberly. What comes out of our mouths is so indicative of our maturity!

  2. I agree! My language has been the most important tool for me to determine how much I have changed or am changing. :)
